The king of grains: why basmati rice is a must in your kitchen

"As fragrant as a spring breeze - the secret hero of your rice bowl!"

Hey you,
Have you ever experienced that magical moment when the lid of the rice pot opens and a whiff of warm, fragrant basmati rice wafts towards you? Then it's high time you did!

I'm your little manga kitchen girl, armed with a rice spoon and a beating heart - and today it's all about the star among rice varieties: basmati rice!

What's so special about basmati rice?

Basmati means "fragrance" in Hindi, and that's not just a pretty name - this rice really does have an incomparably fine, slightly nutty aroma. The grains remain loose and fluffy when cooked, perfect for anyone who hates mushy rice (ooh, that would be the ultimate kitchen fail!).

Compared to normal long-grain rice varieties, basmati is slightly thinner, but as elegant as a samurai's sword - and it can be used just as precisely in your dishes!

What does basmati rice go with?

Whether you are conjuring up a creamy Thai curry, preparing an Indian butter chicken or simply a bowl with tofu and peanut sauce - basmati rice is your trusty sidekick! It soaks up sauces like a sponge and at the same time brings its own elegant flavor.

My personal insider tip? Cook it with a little pinch of salt and a piece of star anise - sounds crazy, but you'll love me for it!

How to cook basmati like a pro (or like a manga master chef):

  1. Wash it! Yes, really - give it a nice water bath. Rinse two or three times until the water runs clear.
  2. Leave to soak! Soak for 20 minutes - this will make it even looser when cooking!
  3. In the pot: 1 part rice to 1.5 parts water. Put the lid on. Bring to the boil, then turn down the heat and simmer for 10-12 minutes.
  4. Do not stir, just leave to rest! Then simply leave to stand for 5 minutes with the lid on. And then... fluffy perfection!

If you ask me: a bag of basmati rice belongs in every kitchen. It's like the little white shirt in your closet - it always fits, looks good and you simply feel better afterwards. That's a promise!

Ready for your rice adventure? Then grab your basmati and show your kitchen who's the grain commander!
